Julia has done extensive research on Cypriot traditional textiles. Her research covers not only woven fabrics but also embroidery, lace, and garments. She gives lectures (many of which have been published) and organises exhibitions on textiles of specific areas and historic periods of Cyprus. Julia also lectures in scientific conferences / symposiums abroad.
She was commissioned by the Leventis museum to write "The Collection of Embroidery and Lace of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia". Julia was also the textiles advisor for the films "Weaving Ladies of Cyprus" (2001-2008) and "Lefkara Lace" (2010-2012) directed by Paschalis Papapetrou, with the support of the Cyprus Cultural Services. Her enthusiasm for traditional Cypriot textiles led to the creation of the Cyprus Textile Route website and booklet, created in cooperation with the European Textile Network.
Part of Julia's research covers the study of traditional Cypriot Phyti weaving. She has helped to put together the event In the footsteps of weavers held in Phyti village (May 2018) where she gave a lecture on the history of Phyti weaving. The aim of the event was to revive this almost lost type of traditional weaving and was organised by the Laona Foundation under the auspices of the UNESCO Cyprus Commission and funded by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education.
