Handwoven black and white "Arete" shawl with textured stripes. Its cotton warp is left unwoven and interlaced in net like structures. Unexpected shapes result when the shawl is worn round the body and parts of it overlap. It reminds of sea anemones and tropical flowers. 

The shawl is inspired from Queen Arete's costume, which I designed and wove for the theatrical production of "Odyssey" for the Cypria festival in Cyprus. The design is based on drawings from pottery of the 5th century BC depicting the characters of Odyssey. 

The shawl can also be used on dining tables and sofas for decoration.
