Handwoven lampshade based on Cypriot traditional “asproploumia” fabrics. The lampshade has the natural colours of the materials it is made of: cotton, cane and sisal. The cane is in woven alternatively with white cotton cord which follows a repeated S shape – the basic weave used in “asproploumia”. The resulting design reminds of meanders and columns, forms and shapes of classical Greece. This resemblance may indicate that there is a link between archaic Greek and traditional designs.

At night when the light of the lampshade is turned on, the cane, thick cotton and sisal are transformed into dark silhouettes and the gaps around them are filled with light. This interplay with shadows and light gives an impressive, warm look.

The lampshade is sewn by hand around a specially made wire frame which keeps it taut and safe to send in any country. The wooden base and central pole of the lampshade are handmade. It is ready to use with an electrical installation and plug. Free shipping!
